Match report: spectacular win against the Bruisers

On a scorching hot day in front of around 100 fans and supporters, Berlin Irish’s firepower was enough to tip the scales against a highly motivated and strong Berlin Bruisers outfit on Sunday afternoon.

The lads got going quickly out of the blocks with 4 tries (Healy, Naisoro, Steele, Marquez) within the first 20 minutes, the pick of which being a well-worked backs move, to play in winger Armando Marquez to run in from 20 meters out.

The bruisers however would show that they had plenty of fight left in them. A series of strong carries and a blindside snipe by their scrum-half saw them get their first try on the board. And when centre Naisoro headed to the sin bin due to a high tackle, the bruisers slotted the resulting penalty to make it 28–10 after 30 minutes.

Irish built up the pressure again and worked up into the 22, where forwards coach Turner was able to crash through 2 tackles from a few meters out. The Bruisers however immediately hit back with slick handling to force a line break and give themselves a try just before halftime

Half Time:

Berlin Irish 33–15 Berlin Bruisers

The Bruisers started the second half strongly, and patiently ground through 17 phases in the Irish 22 before finding a gap to sneak over with a pick and go, leading to some strong words under the posts from Berlin Irish captain Lenzing and the leadership group.

From here, though, the boys in green turned on the style, with centers Healy and Naisoro combining repeatedly to create chance after chance. Healy scored his second from a mazy run through the left, whilst Naisoro played club’s stalwart Tom Probert on, for his second try of the season.

Flanker Johnny Aplin fought his way over the line after a driving maul was brought to ground a few yards short of the line, and Naisoro scored the try of the game chasing a bomb from Daubney to collect with aplomb and race away.

Healy continued his great form then, scoring two more as the back line began to run rampant against a tired bruisers team who were flagging in the heat. Turner finished the scoring running a support line to dot down in the corner, Daubney hit his 9th conversion of the day to cap a huge performance by the boys in green.
